Confused Wizards

Letting you tell the stories you want to tell.

The Game (BTS)

We intend for this game to be accessible to players wanting a lighter rule system while still allowing for a heavy amount of customisation, optimisation, and roleplaying.

The Scene —

In a far future where humans have explored much of the galaxy, entertainment has grown increasingly stale and stagnate.
To combat this, a media conglomeration called Apex Entertainment has set out to make the ultimate show.

The show will film real people in real situations. Apex uses its resources to terraform any planet in order to build its show. They offer desperate people an opportunity to start a new life on the planet. Eventually, they start filming a reality show.

Players assume the role of survivors of an environmental catastrophe that turned a tranquil world into one of hazardous landscapes and monsters. Unbeknownst to the characters, they are reality show stars in a dystopian far-future whose exploits on this planet are broadcasted to a universe of viewers.

— The Mechanics —

Dice Types

Behind the Scenes uses a D6 dice pool system to resolve actions taken by the players.

There are three types of dice, and each dice represents a different factor.

Positive dice represents the players skill or any advantage the player may have in the action taken.

Negative dice represents the inherent difficulty of a task, be that an enemy or obstacle.

Finally, Neutral dice represents the ever-present randomness factor.

Attributes

Characters in Behind the Scenes have eight attributes; Brawl, Ranged, Brawn, Finesse, Mental, Ingenuity, Social and Awareness.

These attributes are used for any action a character is required to make.

To perform an action, the acting player must choose one of the eight attribute they feel is most appropriate to the task.

They must also justify that choice of attribute by describing how they intend to use it.

Modes of Play

Combat and Showdown are the two primary modes of play in Behind the Scenes.

A Combat is used for when a fight breaks out. In a player’s turn they can perform any number of actions, but every action beyond the first is cumulatively harder.

A Showdown is used for an extended task that would require multiple actions and rolls to accomplish. Additionally, their actions are modified by factors inherent to a Showdown call Traits. Showdowns are intended to be something similar to a montage scene in movie like Ocean’s Eleven.

— The App —

We have designed our game with the use of a bespoke companion app. This app is intended to keep the game moving smoothly while empowering GMs and players with improvisational and mechanical tools.

These tools will take the form of;

  • Trackers
  • Generators
  • Encounter Builders
  • Digital Rulebook
  • Digital Character Sheets
  • Dice Roller

An integrated highly navigable rulebook. Our game will still be entirely playable without this app.
